Foam latex is usually used to cast puppets, although nowadays
silicone rubbers and urethanes are increasingly used. Whatever the
material, techniques for casting remain the same. The metal
skeleton is suspended in the mould, and the chosen casting material
is painted, poured or injected into the mould and around the
armature. Once the casting material has cured, either by heat or
chemical reaction, the mould is taken apart to reveal the
near-complete puppet. Seam lines are them trimmed and finished.
